Two years ago, I was the last girl you would have caught sewing, but when the hubby came home to tell me that he was deploying yet again I knew that I was going to have to make a change. I had been working from home for years, but my business meant that I often had to work in the evenings and on weekends. And with the hubby gone, and us stationed far from family, that left no one to watch our toddler. So we began praying for a change. A few months later when my custom tutus went viral among our friends and family, we began to think maybe this was the opportunity we had been praying for. But being the realist that I am, I wanted to be sure I could really pull this whole ‘handmade’ thing off. So I borrowed my moms twenty year old Singer and literally “Googled”” how to thread a sewing machine- and every step thereafter. And wouldn’t you know, that very week I brought that sewing machine home, we got one more surprise. I was pregnant. That was all the confirmation I needed. I gave myself a crash course in sewing, buried my head in manuals and YouTube videos and got to work. And I fell in love. Not just with sewing, but with the entire handmade community. The gal behind Prose Boutique.

Hi! I'm Allie. I started my shop because I was constantly making things for my daughter- clothes, hair accessories, etc...and then I started making things for myself too. I like things that are one of a kind. Since I was buying a yard of fabric and only needing 1/3 a yard, or a big piece of felt and only needed a corner, I figured, "Why not take all the extra material and make items to sell?" Whatever I made would just allow me to continue buying materials to make my daughter and son more things ;) It wasn't until my first sale (the night I opened my shop) that I experienced what I now know is the real reason I started my shop. Knowing that someone in another state is wearing something I made because they really liked it enough to buy it, and the feeling that comes with knowing that. It's amazing to know that out there in the world are my designs. That's really why I continue making things now.
